Tips for parents, caregivers, and youth.

November is the month for recognizing Family Violence in Alberta and its impacts. It’s also a time for reflecting on safe, healthy relationships and learning how to protect ourselves, the people we love, and our communities.

Here are some tips on how you can help yourself or others in situations of family violence or where to reach out:

For young parents and caregivers -

  • Model healthy communication
  • Set boundaries and stay calm
  • Keep kids safe

For youth and young adults

  • Recognize unhealthy relationships
  • Be a supportive friend or sibling
  • Reach out for help

Together, everyone or anyone can raise awareness of this topic. We can all:

  • Learn about consent and respect
  • Speak up safely
  • Educate ourselves
  • Get involved in our communities

It’s important to know that family violence doesn’t have a race or gender or identity. But rather the same common denominator that violence should never be tolerated anywhere or in anything. Together we can all bring it to the light and find places where we can talk about it openly and have more resources to end it, wherever it’s happening.
