Be seen. Be safe. Be proud.

Every June, Alberta joins the world in celebrating Pride Month.

A time to honour the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, uplift voices, and fight for equality. For both Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth,

Pride is about being seen, being safe, and being proud.

Why Pride matters

  • Pride started after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising—a bold stand against discrimination.
  • Today, it’s a celebration of love, identity, and freedom to be yourself.
  • In Alberta, Pride brings people together—from downtown Calgary and Edmonton to rural communities.

For Indigenous Youth: Honouring Two-Spirit Identity

  • Two-Spirit is a sacred identity in many Indigenous cultures, representing both masculine and feminine spirits.
  • Before colonization, Two-Spirit people were respected as healers, leaders, and visionaries.
  • Pride is a chance to reclaim tradition and celebrate your full self—culture, gender, and all.

What You’ll See During Pride Month

  • Parades and Pride walks
  • Safe spaces and workshops
  • Two-Spirit storytelling and cultural events
  • Allies standing in solidarity

This June, take up space. Show your colours. Celebrate who you are.
