Be seen. Be safe. Be proud.
Every June, Alberta joins the world in celebrating Pride Month.
A time to honour the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, uplift voices, and fight for equality. For both Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth,
Pride is about being seen, being safe, and being proud.
Why Pride matters
- Pride started after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising—a bold stand against discrimination.
- Today, it’s a celebration of love, identity, and freedom to be yourself.
- In Alberta, Pride brings people together—from downtown Calgary and Edmonton to rural communities.
For Indigenous Youth: Honouring Two-Spirit Identity
- Two-Spirit is a sacred identity in many Indigenous cultures, representing both masculine and feminine spirits.
- Before colonization, Two-Spirit people were respected as healers, leaders, and visionaries.
- Pride is a chance to reclaim tradition and celebrate your full self—culture, gender, and all.
What You’ll See During Pride Month
