What is it? Who is it for? Alberta Works is a program managed by Alberta Employment and Immigration (E&I).
It is designed to assist:
- Unemployed individuals in securing and maintaining employment
- Support employers in filling positions with skilled workers
- Help low-income Albertans cover their essential living expenses
What does it cover? This program covers:
- Childcare
- Special Diets
- Utility connection fees
- Work-related expenses
- Unexpected emergencies
- Costs to leave family violence
- School expenses for children
However, other supports may be available based on the Income Support Benefits list.
Who can apply for this? Anyone in Alberta over the age of 18.
What is the eligibility criteria?
- Must be a Canadian citizen
- Must be living in Alberta
- Not have income that exceeds what you would receive from Income Support core benefits
- Unable to pay for basic needs
- Willing to apply for other income programs
- Willing to apply for work (unless deemed unable due to health conditions)
What will they require to apply? Here are a few things they will request:
- Provide personal and financial information
- Develop a plan with an Income Support Worker
